2025 brings the debut of a unique project on the music scene - MonoTony Ænsemble. Duo formed by music producer Zuzanna Ossowska (OS.SO) and viola soloist Krzysztof Komendarek-Tymendorf, was brought together by a passion for cinematic and avant-garde sounds that expand the boundaries of traditional classical music.
The unmatchable sound of MonoTony is an exceptional journey into the multidimensional soundscape of only two - but intensively explored - instruments: piano and viola.
Zuzanna introduces ethereal and delicate chords that complement the rich sound of Krzysztof's viola. Together they use innovative performance techniques, instrument preparation and electroacoustic solutions that break the common approach to neoclassical music.
In their compositions the viola is not only melodic, but often also the percussive heart of the pieces. With sophisticated techniques such as tapping, Bartók pizzicato, scordatura, dirty glissando and many more, they create an intense sonic universe that draws the listener into a variety of musical textures.
MonoTony is a bold musical project - both Zuzanna and Krzysztof are not afraid to experiment. Modern production brings freshness to sounds already familiar to listeners. In their work one can hear also the influence of Musique concrète, where ambient sounds - such as breaths, stops and random tones - permeate the compositions, creating a unique atmosphere that intrigues and surprises.
Apparently there’s not much monotony in it.
